  • Real-time mesoscale model 5 (MM5) 26-hour weather forecast for the Western US with an emphasis on California
  • Twice daily forecasts at 00 UTC and 12 UTC
  • Output Web products usually available by 9:30 AM/PM PST (17:30 and 5:30 UTC)
  • Forecast results for the three model domains:
    Western US

    27 km resolution
    California and Nevada

    9 km resolution
    Southern California

    3 km resolution
  • For more results use the links in the bar above. Here is a short description of each type of results:
    • Surface winds, pressure, temperature -- main model results. Given for all three domains as 6-hour-increment forecasts (starting 8 hours into the run) and 1-hour-increment animations for the 3-km and 9-km grids for the whole forecast.
    • Additional meteorological fields -- additional model outputs such as precipitation, upper-level winds, and vertical soundings, given for all domains as 6-hour-increment forecasts (starting 8 hours into the run).
    • Time series -- time series of wind speed, wind direction, and temperature at selected West Coast NDBC buoys.
    • Verification -- comparison of past model forecasts and measured wind speed, wind direction, and temperature at 21 NDBC buoys. Latest verification is for the run started 24 hours prior to the current run.
